Nature Over Again is the first book to examine all the garden designs and 'interventions' of Ian Hamilton Finlay (1925-2006), best known for the garden of Little Sparta he created for himself in the Lowlands of Scotland. Other gardens Finlay contributed to include the garden of the Max Planck Institue, Stuttgart; Stockwood Park, Luton, Schweizergarten, Vienna; the woodlands of the Kroller-Muller museum and many more. John Dixon Hunt draws on Finlay's many reflections on the art and practice of garden-making to explore the whole range of his varied work in several countries. By doing so, the author both situates Finlay's gardens in relation to his wider philosophy and poetry, as manifested in books and prints, and at the same time making a strong case for Finlay as an innovative creator of gardens in a long tradition of great European gardens.
