E-Books are growing in popularity and there is speculation that as their sales increase that they might one day become more prolific than traditional printed books. For the meantime that isn’t the case, and e-books remain a fairly specialist area of interest, however more people are choosing them over printed books as the technology required to read e-books becomes more readily available.
To read an e-book you’ll of course need an e-book reader. These are electronic tablets that display the text of books downloaded onto them in an easy to read way. They vary in price, but there are models commercially available for around the hundred pound mark. Typically an e-book reader will be able to store hundreds of books and they’re designed so they can be read easily with screens that reduce glare. One advantage of these readers over traditional printed books is the control they allow the user. For example, you can control the size of the text, which is perfect for people who have impaired vision.
Of course the greatest appeal of the e-books is their potential for space saving. You can hold a library of literally hundreds of books on your PC, whereas actual physical copies of the same books would take up a huge amount of space in your home. Also the portability of e-book readers is another huge appeal, as they allow you take a collection of books on the road with you that you can read at your leisure.
